It’s always entertaining to look back over the year to see what transpired. And what a year 2018 was.
The news media were consumed with one big story after another, but the biggest ones involved the investigation of all things President Donald Trump and the MSM’s obsession with him, the confirmation battle that ended with Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court despite a series of scurrilous and spurious claims of sexual misconduct, and, of course, the mid-term elections.
But there were a lot more things going on – and many of them as important, if not more so – than those fixated upon by the media. And we covered them for you in case you lost them in all the noise.
We have compiled the top 15 stories from the year, based on reader interaction and reaction combined with our view what was important, for your enjoyment. We present them to you here in reverse order. If we missed one you thought was particularly important, please share it with us in the comments.
Are Republican politicians on our side?
If the Republican politicians are our friends, who needs enemies?
There is a common theme in discussions with conservative friends who believe that Republican politicians — particularly those residing for very long in the District of Criminals — are cowards or become cowards who are afraid to stand up for conservative causes. It’s also a message regularly delivered by Republican-loving scribes and talking heads who claim to be conservatives.
Looking for answer in all the wrong places
The discussion in the immediate aftermath of the Valentine’s Day massacre school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas school in Florida devolved into the same arguments that have followed every other mass shooting in America: The left wants to restrict or outright ban guns, and the right opposes any more unconstitutional restrictions on gun ownership. A dispute over gun rights ensues. The crux of the problem is ignored.
When Cain killed Abel in Genesis 4, he did so out of a rejection of Godliness, Godly love and Godly principles.
The second ‘civil’ war
The “tolerant” left will tolerate nothing that doesn’t comport to their radical orthodoxy. And seeing their policies rejected by the electorate, they have sought to use government, the courts and a bullying media to force their will on others. Now they’re employing a new tactic: encouraging and engaging in outright bullying and physical confrontations.
In the last several days we’ve seen President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security Secretary and her staff harassed as they ate at a public restaurant, Trump’s spokespuppet Sarah Huckabee Sanders asked to leave run out of a restaurant (where the restaurant owner then followed her family to another restaurant and verbally harangued them), Trump staffer Stephen Miller’s apartment swarmed by protesters who tacked up “Wanted” posters, Senator Mitch McConnell and his wife Elaine Chao, Secretary of Transportation, surrounded and shouted at by a mob of “students,” a DHS staffer reporting a decapitated and burned animal carcass being left on his porch, and Representative Maxine Waters (Communist-California) calling for organized mobs to look for “anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station,” and for them to “get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”
The ideal of political authority is to create a public mind that is a mirror image of the pretense of government. This is a perfect crime against human liberty.
The first cause of government is and can only be suppression of our human nature and loss of our identity as human beings and individuals. Hence, government authority and propaganda seek to fade the individual into group consciousness. Altruistic philosophy and self-denial is the government propaganda used in this process.
The church of secularism is reaping what it has sown
Democracy is an organized system of political, moral and social control. It is the evolution and fulfillment of all systems gone before. It is the New World Order to perfection for the ruling international elite. It is the master strategy of taking human liberty and individualism and transferring them to the group herd that clamors for authoritarianism.
Democracy is not freedom. It is not government by the people and for the people. It is the perfect disguise for benevolent totalitarianism. As such, it’s anathema to Christian-based morality and liberty.
How can human liberty turn into slavery without the people’s knowledge? Gradualism is the key.
Anything can be accomplished with gradualism, so there is no need for absolute military conquest. Whether it takes 50 years or 100, the elites don’t care. They’re patient. So how do they do it?
The American system is not capitalism
One of the great myths of our time is that America is a capitalistic country. It is not, and has not been close to capitalistic for more than 150 years.
Capitalism is a social system in which an individual’s rights, including his rights to own property, are recognized and all property is privately owned. In a capitalistic society, governments acknowledge that individuals and companies can and should compete for their own economic gain, and the prices of goods and services are determined by the free market. The role of government in capitalistic societies is to ensure that markets function without interference and to protect individuals from fraud and/or the use of physical force by others.
Why there are ‘s**thole’ countries
Whether President Donald Trump did or did not use an expletive term to describe certain Third-World nations like Haiti, El Salvador and some African countries, the controversy that erupted over the claims that Trump called them “s**tholes” demonstrates the chasm between the elites and average Americans is so wide you can’t see one side from the other.
A rational observer can look at the conditions in those countries and realize something is wrong. When countries see overwhelming portions of its population living in squalor, without basic sanitation and no supply chain from which to acquire basic necessities, it is not unreasonable to describe those countries in less than glowing terms. This is especially true if the countries have been in this condition for most — if not all — of their histories.
Trump knocks the media off their hinges again
With no public events on his schedule, President Donald Trump had time on his hands. As so often happens when this is the case, his empty hands gravitated to his phone.
The president took to his favorite social media platform and let loose a 12-tweet barrage that sent the media into a tizzy. His tweets focused on Senator Elizabeth Warren (Communist – Lie-Awatha), highlighted some of his administration’s accomplishments (strong job numbers), Saudi Arabia, the Honduran migrant caravan and phony Russiagate scandal.
The WIRE: Your week in review
From Port au Prince to Pelosi making us wince — and most points in between — it’s time for a look back at the week that was. Personal Liberty Digest® presents: The WIRE!
President Trump allegedly called Haiti and some African countries “shitholes” Thursday, touching off a symphony of leftist butthurt.
We don’t need your civil war
Time was, whenever someone noted the Democrats’ anti-gun rhetoric began listing too far toward fascism, they’d scoff that they were being paranoid. “No one is coming for your guns,” they’d laugh, although not as loudly as when their Messiah Obama mocked gun owners as violent, backwards, religious fanatics. That was then, this is now.
As we’ve learned in the days since the Left turned a terrorist attack that took the lives of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida, into an attempt to normalize blatantly defamatory rhetoric about the NRA, AR-15 owners and civil liberties in general, they’re coming for your guns, my friends… and they’re through being coy about it.
Longtime Middle East journalist reports no evidence of gas attack in Syria
A journalist who has covered Middle East wars for decades and was the first on the ground in Douma, the site of the alleged gas attack that prompted a bombing campaign by the U.S., U.K. and France, says there’s no evidence of a gas attack.
Robert Fisk, writing for the U.K.’s The Independent, says eyewitnesses, including a Syrian doctor, says no gas attack occurred that night. From the report, as told to Fisk by Dr. Assim Rahaibani:
Trump’s impeachable offense – and Paul Ryan’s and Mitch McConnell’s
Lost amid the hullabaloo that is the phony Trump dossier, Trump-Russia collusion charges, paid off porn actresses and Robert Mueller’s witch hunt, President Donald Trump committed an offense for which he should be impeached.
His recent attack on Syria – a country which has not attacked the U.S. (and in fact, is incapable of attacking the U.S) and which poses no threat – was immoral, illegal and unconstitutional. Beyond that, it was based on a lie, as all recent U.S. wars have been. It therefore reaches the threshold of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Gun owners: These companies don’t want your business
Corporate America is sending a message to U.S. 2nd Amendment supporters as company after company severs benefits partnerships with the National Rifle Association.
The leftist website ThinkProgress, which is funded by George Soros’ Center for American Progress, is taking credit for the growing #BoycottNRA movement which kicked off in the days following the tragic school shooting in Florida earlier this month.
Mr. Jorge’s wild (and illegal) ride
Tragedy struck Monday afternoon in Detroit. An innocent man was dragged from his home, ripped from the loving embrace of his family and hurled out of the country by stormtroopers serving a fascist government bent on punishing good people to benefit bad. As his family, and a crowd of onlookers wept openly, Jorge Garcia was stuffed onto an outbound plane, a victim of President Donald Trump’s war on Americans.
At least that’s how the Democrats tell the story. In reality, Jorge Garcia is a criminal, and after 30 years on the lam, the law finally caught up to him. See, Jorge wasn’t just a kindly landscaper from Lincoln Park. Jorge was an illegal alien. He and his family aren’t victims of stormtroopers, a fascist government or President Donald Trump.
