‘Proof positive of Trump Derangement Syndrome’

WASHINGTON – “The assassination plot directed at Republican members of congress this morning is proof positive of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” former congresswoman Michele Bachmann told WND.

“The political left is more than unhinged, they have fallen into a dangerous delusion of their own making,” she remarked after a gunman opened fire on GOP lawmakers at a softball practice in Alexandria, Va., Wednesday morning, wounding five people.

“The assassin was a Bernie Sanders volunteer, Rachel Maddow fan, avid follower of Comedy Central and of Bill Maher,” Bachmann noted.

As WND is reporting, the shooting suspect killed this morning, James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., did indeed campaign for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential election.

“The [would-be] assassin obviously listened well to his TV political ‘teachers’ and took his ‘resist’ marching orders to an unthinkable level, based upon the hysterical, fact-deprived, profanity-laced ravings of the lunatic left,” said the former lawmaker from Minnesota.

Bachmann took aim at a graphic and dramatic depiction of violence against the GOP’s top leader, one that is getting rave reviews but condemnation from the right.

“The Trump assassination play in New York’s Central Park should close,” she declared.

She was referring to the annual production of “Shakespeare in the Park” that currently features a performance that transforms Julius Caesar into the spitting image of President Trump dressed in a modern business suit, who is brutally stabbed to death on stage.

The Public Theater’s website states that “Shakespeare’s political masterpiece has never felt more contemporary,” and describes the main character as a magnetic populist “bent on absolute power,” and who is assassinated by a “small band of patriots, devoted to the country’s democratic traditions.”

Audiences in Manhattan are giving performances standing ovations while those on the right are appalled.

But the uproar over people cheering the bloody assassination of the President of the United States caused major sponsors Delta Air Lines and Bank of America to discontinue their financial support of New York’s Public Theater over the weekend.

The New York Times blamed the loss of revenue on “days of criticism online and in right-leaning media outlets.”

Bachmann told WND, “Defiant play sponsor, American Express should offer an apology and state they will no longer back plays that advocate violence and assassination plots against political figures.”

American Express claims it doesn’t sponsor Shakespeare in the Park or the current production of “Julius Caesar,” but that may be semantics because the credit-card company does sponsor Public Theater, the company that produces the play.

However, American Express felt compelled to remove its sponsor banner on the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park website on Monday.

Bachmann’s blaming of the political climate for the shooting of the GOP lawmakers was echoed by an eyewitness who was himself targeted.

“This political rhetoric and discourse that has led to hate has led to gunfire,” said Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., who was at bat when the gunfire began.

Bachmann reflected, “Rep. Steve Scalise and I were part of the same congressional class. He and other members of congress and their staffs are in my fervent prayers for their safety.”
