There are reports of 20 or more dead – and multitudes injured – as the result of a series of explosions that hit Manchester Arena in England just as an Ariana Grande concert was finishing Monday.
There was no immediate confirmation of terror links, but it strongly resembles any one of a number of recent attacks that have proven to be terror, in Paris and other locations.
The Daily Mail said there were reports of at least 20 dead and many injured, and “video footage showed thousands of people fleeing in tears from the venue, many covered in blood.”
Eyewitness Evie Brewster told the news agency, “Ariana Grande had just finished her last song and left the stage when a huge explosion sounded. Suddenly everybody started screaming and running for the exit.”
NBC reported that authorities believed there were possibly two explosions, although there was no confirmation on what triggered the blasts.
“Greater Manchester police said only that there were ‘a number of confirmed fatalities and injuries’ as hundreds of fans fled the arean,” the agency said. “Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the possible blasts.”
The performing artists Ariana reportedly was uninjured, a spokesman said. Nor was Bianca Landrieu, a hiphop star also on stage during the event, hurt, according to social media.
“British Transport Police said officers were at the arena, which sits atop the Manchester Victoria transit station,” the network reported. “All lines to Manchester Victoria were closed.”
