Trump to NRA crowd: ‘Assault’ on 2nd Amendment is over

During his speech to National Rifle Association members gathered for the organization’s annual leadership forum, President Donald Trump vowed that he will never, ever infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms.”

“Only one candidate in the general election came to speak to you, and that candidate is now the president of the United States, standing before you,” Trump said. “You came through for me, and I am going to come through for you.”

Trump is the first president to visit the annual NRA event since Ronald Reagan.

“The eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end,” the president said during the event, adding that 2nd Amendment supporters “have a true friend and champion in the White House.”

White House press secretary Sean Spicer called the president’s visit to Atlanta Friday a good end to “an incredible week.”

Trump has so far made good on promises to walk back Obama era gun orders, a promising sign for voters who selected him solely over 2nd Amendment concerns.

And if the president’s remarks are any indicator, he intends to continue protecting 22nd Amendment rights.

“Freedom is not a gift from government. Freedom is a gift from God,” Trump said.
